Something about the canadian 4 window cab engines have always drawn my attention so I decided to give one a shot. Ill be using a Kato CN C44-9w as my base. Ill be using the Kaslo shops cab and replacing the kato truck frames with Broadway Limited HI-Ad frames. (the ones they use on the AC6000s) Ive tested them and they fit just about perfectly. I havnt been able to to do too much yet because the engines hasnt arrived but I did start on the cab interior a little bit. Ive been following the thread on the BC Rail C44-9wl and does anyone know if the CN version has the same type of pilot? Ide love to not have to replace it..

Looks like a good project and your off to a good start. I'm going to have to look for one of those cabs, are they still available?

I'm almost-kinda-maybe sure the CN 9-44CWL's had the same Anti-Climber and Pilot details as the BCR's (BCR's 9-44CWL's were a last minute add-on to CN's order)

The anticlimber is available from Kaslo, and will do the front and rear of the loco, as well as some ditch lights.

After spending some time on it this afternoon I was able to get the cab to sit right. I had to add 2 thin styrene sheets to the bottom of the cab, and also file down the lip on the long hood. I also got the brass steps on and cleaned up the front pilot. Now ive just got to decide how accurate I want this thing to be and whether or not to try to tackle the anticlimber...

Wow ,I think that is looking sharp.
The question here is only one for which you can answer.. Are you going to be satisfied with all the work you have done to make the model closer looking to the prototype without changing out the anti-climber? Would the anti-climber look better being the correct one?
In the end you are the one who has to live with whatever you do..
Looks good now though and it is going to be a great model when finished..Keep us posted for sure.

I'm going to do one of these using the Athearn loco. What paint is the best match for CN red? The Athearn red almost looks like Soo Line red. I bought some 'CN red' paint (Accuflex I think) but it is a box car brown type of shade. That's the only thing I've see called 'CN red'.
I'm a Conrail modeler, so what the heck to I know about red anyway??? :-)
Thanks Kerry

I was too lazy to go down to the basement and look at the bottle. I bought it not that long ago, so it must be Modelflex.
The trick is knowing that what looks like red on the locos is called orange, and what looks like brown on the box cars is called red. :-D
