Here we go again so I got the Maple Leaf Trains GP9 slug, a few of you guys have it as well and I thought this trend could be a good place to exchange ideas. Before this kit I didn't know there are two different versions, I will bulding the one with the Flexi Coil trucks. Here is what I did so far. My plan is to have this slug powered by the GP9RM that it will be coupled to, the decoder in the GP9RM will also be connected to the motor in the slug. No power pickup or decoder in the slug. The pilots are from a P2K GP9 shell I had to trim the circled area in the photo below so that the trucks could turn. Im using Atlas trucks.

Looks like a fairly high quality casting?

It is, I was very impressed with the quality of the casting. The pilots were a bit warped. I was working on the tracks and realized that the flexicoil sideframes would not fit the trucks. I had a Atlas S4 that has the correct wheel spacing for the flexicoils, after a few mods here are the results.

Did the frame come with the kit? If it wouldn't be too much much trouble I would love to see some close up shots of the frame. I'm currently scratchbuilding one of these and the frame has me a bit stumped.

So you're going to permanently couple and wire a GP9rm to it? Looking fwd to this build!
Beats dragging it around the layout as an anchor!!

It won't permanent, i'll be able to disconnect it for the GP9RM. I pulled out these plugs from an old cell phone, one cable has two connections. I'll mount the connector from the cct board on the GP9RM and the cable with the plug will be on the slug, to connect they snap together. Perfect just one cable to run the motor in the slug.

You could also do something like the steam locomotives have, with a quick connect between the tender and main engine.

Trying to find something online is impossible, I think i'll have to hunt one down and snap a bunch of pics.

Problem is these things work in the bowls of no-mans-land typically. Getting some quality time with them will be an issue. Check with Eric A. (M636) He works at a CN container terminal and probably has tonnes of detail photos of these.

Thanks guys. I was hopping to use the motor out of the Alco S1 but it's too big, you really need something small not much room in there. So another CD rom motor found a home, I had to modify it for dual shafts.
