So here is my new project. I found this custom built F40PH on ebay I think I only paid $30, it had a bad motor and a blown DCC chip, but it has most of the major work already done. The engine room door was moved and it also has rounded windows in both doors, both front and back pilots where custom built. With the amount of work that was done to the shell I was surprised to find that it was missing most of the small details. The frame is perfect its just missing a few small details which i will add. I have no idea who's make shell this is. Here I added MU hoses, coupler bar, head light, drilled holes in the plow for the MU hoses and drilled holes for the wires in the ditch lights. Here I added the tail light, receptacle and MU hoses. I still need to add the coupler bar. New Cannon fans will be installed also plastic molded grills will be cut out and metal ones installed. I had to modify the fans to make them look similar to the prototype. and here is the frame, I don't really have to do much here.

Have you looked into the Kaslo metal etch kit? For a mere 20 bucks it has virtually every detail you'll need to make this 100% correct and it will look better than the upcoming Rapidos and at a third the cost So far so good, I grew up watching these haul The Chaleur up and down the Gaspe in the summers and I too will do one someday.

I should have let one of the two guys who designed it chime in. I picked up four of them last winter from Highball. I haven't used them yet but they look great!

Nice work! Would you consider getting the Train Station Products Blomberg M sideframes? They have the correct combination of leaf spring and roller bearings. I have a set if you want them...

Well now you HAVE to use the TSP blomberg Ms if you're going all the way! Never thought of adding the tread to the steps, good idea!

looking at the TSP and Athearn frames the only difference I see is the leaf springs. I'm thinking of cutting out the leaf springs from a set of Atlas trucks that I have and installing them in the Athearn frames. Am I missing anything else?

The exposed ends of the bearing caps, but than can easily be fixed with DW caps...

the yaw strut and the brake adjusters as well. it is a more modern version than the Athearns. Minatures by Eric makes the proper end caps. www.railbus.ca/64UF.html
