Well Anthony, I went ahead and posted the rebuild of the SD45T-2's I am doing. I like your exhaust stack set up. Kinda makes me think of a GE..... C60AC to be exact, since I know you just loved the UP ones..... ha ha ha! You have done an good job on this unit so far. It will look awesome when done. Maybe "our" railroad should have a few too....

NO GE Gary,lol.. That is a bad bad comparison... Those C60AC's were complete junk I tell you.. I agree on the SAAP having some, heck you should paint the one your building in SAAP instead SP..

Very cool! I like the history, helps establish the reasoning as to why the rebuild was done. One of the perk's to modeling a freelance roads, we can conjure up interesting rebuild's and repowering projects like this! The photos are really helping move me along on my CGP20 (imagine BC Rail CRS20, but on a GP).

The cabinet holds all the electronics for the new engine such as the EFI,also the High Output controls/computer and any processioning for the Low Emission controls..
Think about the PR43C from Norfolk Southern and the other engines by Progressive Rail that have been built recently. They needed more room for all the electronics stuff so you just add cabinets where you can..
The only difference is mine "is being build around 1997" in my world anyway and this is the first steps in the new emissions control garbage the EPA enacted(or will be enacting)..
The only thing I might do is to add a few bolt heads on the brass panels on the cabinet...

Makes sense. I would have figured with the added length of the SD45T-2 frame all of those components would have fit inside the main body. But I guess in '97 and with it being essentially the first step in emissions controls, the components weren't as compact then as they are today. Looking good so far. Too bad the '97 time frame is a little too far out for my CMW modeling. Those would look cool in orange and black

Mike there is nothing says you couldnt do the same thing in ur time frame. Look at the engine garysatx is building for the SP. And a rebuild like this would also make since seeing how designs are being built today.

As far as time frames for this type of rebuild, use MK or Boise Locomotive works for examples. The MK5000C was a ground up loco that had a CAT in it and that was in the early to mid 90's. Anyway, its your railroad and you can do as you please. BTW Anthony, that is looking sweet!

Ok continuing on with the build. Dont you just hate it when your building a model and someone reminds you that you forgot something. Well talking with Gary and discussing the differences between his SD40T-3MECO and my SD44LEO i left off a place for the battiers. I had a brain fart and was thinking they where under the cab. Well NOW we all know they cant be there.. So I went the route Gary did somewhat and this is what I have come up with so far..

This is a great build. It's giving me lots of ideas for my GP32ECO project.
