Along with Mid Michigan #24 I started in the Early EMD board, I am working on this unit: After renumbering in the early 2000s: It is a hand me down GP38 from CSX. I started with an undecorated Atlas GP38. There should be no major body modifications needed. Just detail and paint. Ive installed most of the grabs as well as make a becon light bracket and attached the bell: I was wondering if someone knew of some decals for the large GR on the ends and cab letters and numbers? I know the hood lettering is railroad roman. Also Ive been looking for some decal sets with the Railtex logo for the cab. Thank you.

Hi Nick, It looks like Gothic lettering to me. Try Jim at Highball Graphics, here are links to his site for the lettering and Railtex decals. www.mgdecals.com/gothic.htmwww.mgdecals.com/AD-26.htm The unit is looking good, can't wait to see you get some paint on it. Erik

Very nice, grantruckfan! I do love small shortlines & have done quite a few locos for Grand Rapids eastern & Mid Michigan sister railroads in the Railtex Red/Gray scheme

You will really like the decals you'll get from Jim at Highball. He's done sets for me several times and the results are excellent.

Popular engine ! .... Just did one myself ! .... I worked with Jim at Highball Graphics to create this set and also the Mid Michigan and Michigan Shore set as well. The original printing had the long hood lettering too large, but we got that corrected. Jim also made the numberboards as well so they could be illuminated, including the small numbered board on the brakeman's side ! And yes, you will like the results ! Mark.

I have a majority of my details done and sent it into the paintshop for priming. I need to start practicing with my airbrush because Im scared to paint this. This is basically my first real detailed locomotive and dont want to mess it up. Still need to see about the decals from Jim. Anyone have any paintshop tips they can share?

Are these decals available through Highball or do you have sets to sell. I live in Grand Rapids and have wanted to do these engines but, didn;t due to lack of decals. Great looking model

What paints are you using first off? Do you have a compressor? What airbrush are you using? Lets start there..

I emailed Jim a while ago about doing a set special for this unit. mark, who did the finished GRE unit shown in this thread, mentioned that he talked to Jim about doing a set for GRE, MMRR, as well as Michigan Shore. Id recomend sending an email to Jim to encourage the sets. ;D
Im using, or should I say, planning to use Floquil acrylic paints. I do have a small compressor rated at 40 psi. Also, I have a dual action airbrush.
