Damien has me looking to the more modern, thanks, that is all I need dual era, lol, but I got this from him, it is a PK2. I will need to replace the blower housing, add correct handrail, plus this beast has a funky third eye. I bought some brass sun shades, by DA or DW, I forget which, but they are very nice. He has already added the correct plow, mine will be in the white scheme, and he has the 710 in gray to happen.

I Got the SD50 Thanks Justin. I started modifying it right away. So I replaced out the Blower housing to the early style, and I Relocated the horn an modified the Handrails. The SD50 will get front and rear working ditch lights hopefully,Rock plows on both ends an MU hoses.

Great job so far, I had the same idea on the blower and you showed me that it looks great, what are you going to do about the nose light?

Damian's grey one will not need the third eye, but I will for mine, I will scratch build the drop down and use DA lights castings, I have not seen a pic with all three lit up to determine bulbs or an MV lens, I have the other half of the pack for the blower housing and the stantions as well. By '97 there was a nose light but by 2004 it was blanked out. But we'll let Damian tell us his plans, lol.

You guys want to really make these two SD50's stand out? Use some thin stips of styrene to make the sills thicker at each end. Add Railflyer PT# DP 6193 jack pads and Cannon & Co. PT# 2152 chain tensioner and you're good to go. KCS 704-713 are the only SD50's built with the early thicker sills. They also have the early SD50S style exaust hatch witch shouldn't be too hard to make either. Nice models guys!

This dual/single thread is fun, Damian and I both doing the same locomotive, but different brands and eras. I picked up an OMI exhaust today #9202, anyone have any suggestions to the Dynamic brake grills on the side, the PK2 one seems a bit high, I ordered the tensioners today, but LHS does not order Railflyer stuff, I may just scratch build them. I am considering also correcting the anticlimbers, but that will require new end handrails, but the PK2 ones have a 90 degree turn at the top that KCS 710 does not have. here are prototype shots of 1981 white, Mine rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=1610259and modern or a least 2004 and newer, Damian's rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=62916

Im using Athearn Ditch Light Housings for the SD50 an I have noticed the sill I might make it thicker or i might not. 704-713 SD50s that KCS if i'm correct are the first SD50s every made so they have some early details. Considering KCS has the SD40Xs (SD50 Prototype Model) 700-703 which ride on SD40-2 frames. So the 703-713 are the first SD50s which explains some of the details.

Justin, on your white SD50. When built they came with earlier -2 style bolted battery box doors. You can knock the knuckle busters, bottom hinges and one set of louvors off with a flat blade to give it that early appearance too

I can't be outdone, lol New exhaust Canon Anti-tension on the way and I am going to have the windows open. Trying to not get carried away, and get this one done. That grill has to come down started the sill extensions cut out old blower housing
