Justin, Here is the real reason why your dynamic grill looks out of place. Here is your later 1983-on production SD50 dynamic/Clean air room section. Note the DB grill height and smaller 3 dynamic access doors. Now look at the "early" design. Notice the DB grill is a couple inches shorter and moved down a few inches. The DB access doors are also larger. All SD40X, SD50S, and KCS's first 10 standard SD50's are like this. Happy modeling ;D

I suppose that means the grill it self also has to be modified? (cut top and bottom off, carefully sand about .017 off top and .017 off bottom, reglue top and bottom, and relocate/lower hole and scratch build the doors).... That sound about right? Mark I am glad the info is available, my main concern is on the blower side. It is really apparent that something is not right on that side, the other side may just be left alone. Time to get out the calipers, LOL

Now it's turning into a real project I was smacking my forehead when I noticed this. sure, and you could not have kept the forehead smacking to yourself, this was going to be a quickie 1 to 1 1/2 week project, so I could finally get something finished, yikes!!! seriously I do appreciate the input, I would rather get it closer, than to do the whole thing wrong. I guess the Canon grill that I ordered is not going to quite cut it, oh well.
