Greetings! I finally decided to put a project on the workbench, one at a time. I'm starting off with one of the passenger cars from the GOOD-NUFF Business Train. She started her life as an E&B Valley 6-6-4 sleeping car. I snatched her off of Ebay for less then $10. I wish I had a shot of the car before I stripped it. The paint was nasty! Here's what she looked like after 3 weeks in the alcohol bath: The goal of this build is to create an all-bedroom executive sleeping car. Railroads like UP and NS have several of these cars in their Business Car fleets. After doing considerable research, I came up with a scale floor plan for the car. Next, I layed the sides next to floor plan and marked which windows needed to be filled in. Then I went to town with the sheet styrene and body putty. Here's what she looks like now: and: I scrapped the E&B trucks and installed a pair of brass Balboa passenger car trucks. That brings us up to the next step: Details!! I'm going to spend the rest of tonight on Walthers.com. I'll order the parts tomorrow. More to follow! Merry Christmas! Bry

As for decals, I'll use the stripes and some of the lettering from the Shellscale set. The GOOD-NUFF across the letterboard will be created by Rail Graphics. "E-NUFF" for one night. Bry

I moved this thread, even though it's interesting, it has nothing to do with diesel detailing.

No problem. Maybe if I get enough requests I'll create a board for Varnish.....that's what they call passenger cars.

I received most of the detail parts today. But the marker lights are on backorder.

Here's the latest: 1. Grab irons are on. 2. Stirrups are on. (I salvaged them from a Rivarossi heavyweight car.) 3. I removed the massive pair of weights that were "welded" to the underbody (the car was weighing in at almost 12 ounces thanks to these beauties). This was causing the carbody to lean to one side. 3. I reinforced the sides with brass stock. 4. Finally, I glued the sides to the roof. Tomorrow: 1. More body work. 2. Reinforce the underbody with brass stock (which will bring the car up to the NMRA recommended weight of 6.75 ounces) 3. Apply roof details. More to come! Bry

Here's what was accomplished today:
1. I went to Hobby Lobby and picked up a package of Pine Car Derby 1-ounce stick weights and installed them on the underbody. The car is now at the NMRA recommended 6.75 ounces. 2. I completed the body work on the ends of the car.
Tomorrow, I'll install the roof details as well as the lift rings on the end of the car. After that, she'll be ready to paint.
Pictures tomorrow! Bry
