One month and 3 days after getting this project started, this is what I came up with. The model is painted with Scalecoat II SP Scarlet and SP Dark Gray. It started out as a factory painted model, was stripped and detailed. Im still waiting for the Athabasca Scale Models photo etched brake chain to arrive. Parts used were the following: Hi tech 6030 Battery box GRIP Doors Hi Tech 6029 Raidator GRIP Doors Hi Tech 5014 Patched Front window Details West MU266 MU hoses Details West AH175 Air horn Details West AF 248 Air filter Details West TC224 Traction motor cables Details West RB106 Rotory Beacon Details West AF237 "salem" air dryer Cannon and Company SS2023 Photo Etched Steps Cannon and Company 1501 Dash 2 cab Cannon and Comany 2052 Step lights Cannon and Company 2152 Chain tensioner Cannon and Company 2156 Fuel tank detail set Detail Associates 1404 Drop step Detail Associates 2202 Grab irons Detail Associates 2206 eye bolts Detail Associates 2213 Lift bar brackets Detail Associates 2302 Cab arm rest Detail Associates 2312 Wind deflector Detail Associates 1802 radio antenna base BLMA 4551 Removed Locomotive Headlight Covers I'd like to thank Dave and all the great folks at Eugene Toy and Hobby for getting all my parts and paint etc. so quickly and being such a great group of folks to do business with. And thank you all for checking out my build! More projects comming soon! ;D

Thanks Chris Glad ya like it! Road grime and tunnel soot are what most of the units in Oregon and Northern California look like as I'm sure you're well aware. The model in normal layout room lighting actually appears darker. Now I can get back to the GP60's and start the next 45T-2R and 40T-2. ;D Paul

Peter, Thank you very much for the kind words! I had a blast doing it and sharing with anybody who wanted to see. I'll be stripping the next one tommorow! It will be SD45T-2R 6866, now I'll finally have the helper set I always wanted ;D Keep your eye on the "whats on the bench" part of the site for progress on the next one, and the GP-60 I have going in the EMD section if you like SP power or just crazy people modeling trains ;D All the best, Paul

do you leave the rear drives in or remove them like some do when modeling these locos?

do you leave the rear drives in or remove them like some do when modeling these locos? Daniel, I remove them and create a floor with .020 styrene in the bottom of the shell so you cant see though into the trucks. I will run them 4 on the point or two in mid-train helper service, so the loss of tractive effort is canceled out by the excess( and proto typically realistic ) power in numbers. The club layout these will run on has a maximum of 3% grade and we pulled over a 50 car train with three modified like this and two helpers no problem. The article/blog I did while building this has pictures of the radiators with the floor inside and no screens if you'd like to see how I did it. Paul

Thank you Scott! ;D 6862 was a blast to build, fun to paint and turned out like I saw it in my head while I was doing it, that's all I can ask for ;D When I have it and 6866 running together I'll take a break... maybe a couple of hours ;D Glad ya like it. Now back to setting decals on the GP60. Paul

School is on the front-burner in a rolling boil! Unfortunately the projects are on the back-burners barely simmering.... Sorry about the cooking metaphors, but the wife has been having the Food Network playing in the background while I do my studying/homework.
I might get a little break on Friday or Sunday to get some work done though.

Very nice, but it looks like, and correct me if I'm wrong, the headlights are jeweled or MV lenses? Why not light it?
