Is there any companies that make the C636? Not in BRASS.

I WISH Bowser made a C636. But, the kitbash is 1 part easier if you want to attempt it now as the HIAD trucks are now made by Bowser. I still think it would be a VERY difficult job.

I did the research for this build, but never did it. There are just so many things that are different from a C630 (which is the closest commercially available model) that you'd basically be building the entire hood from scratch. Without a company like Cannon that makes modular parts for Alcos, this would be difficult if not impossible.

Its just funny that the C636 had many roads that used them but no company makes them. But we get multiple companies make GP38's and GP40's etc. Sorry just had to rant a little

ok, sorry to bring this thread back up again, but I just looked up the production numbers of these things... There were a total of 186 C628s, 77 C630s and 34 C636s produced. I've heard the low production numbers of the real thing is why we have no 636. -still not cool.

With only 34 of the prototype your best bet is to try and get someone like Kaslo Shops to make the shell. They're into those one-off models.

I'll have to dig up the facts, but i THINK Bowser has one in the works. I think it was announced at a show late last year early this year. They said it was a ways off. I just remember thinking these would take care of the hole I was facing on my mid 2000's NYSW roster.
I could be way off base and i will have to dig up the evidence... But like Randy said grab some shells a saw and get cutting!

I agree with Randy, We should be able to piece one together. If one looks closely at the truck's (behind the HI-AD stuff) It almost looks like an EMD flexicoil. That can be seen at rrpictures BN 4366. If someone could get me some dimensions I'd try to machine that outside spring thingy. the wheel spacing is within a couple of inches(ALCO to EMD). The bolster length is close to the SD45. The fuel tanks, nose and cab from ATLAS? I read that SANDA KAN cut off BOWSER and a few other companies. Do any C636's still exist?? OK, lets get to work Karl

In N-scale I used a Kato SD-40 and added on some parts from a Con-Cor C-636 to make the trucks acceptable. Cheers Steve

Sorry Karl, meant to add to my other post: There are 3 surviving C-636's from the 34 originals, not bad after 41 years. A former Penn Central/Conrail unit is active in the Poconos on the Delaware-Lackawanna PA. Unit spent many years in San Francisco area on Delta Bulk Terminal. Two of the original Alco demo units are stored "freeze damaged" on the WNY&P. They went to Morrison-Knudson then Cartier, before being bought back to the US and being leased to the NYS&W.
Cheers Steve Modelling NJ in NZ.

We should all put our heads together and figure out what main components would be needed for a kitbash. Looks like the cab is the same as a C630.

Well if I was an Alco man, I would start with a chassis from Broadway RSD-15, I do not have the measurement, but it looks awfully close. Grab an Alco C630 cab as Randy suggested and Evergreen back from there, or a person could just start with the Bowser C630 and work it from there, scrap together the photo etched bits from anything that works. Certainly not an impossible build, the fun part of our hobby is making what is there better, and making what is either too expensive, or not available, reality. that was my 2 pennies worth.

Um.... Trucks are easy now - Stewart/Bowser makes the Hi-Ad trucks for their C-630, and has for a while now. John Still got to come up with trucks and sideframes, If someone wants to make a master, I could probably cast them in resin.

The C-628 and C-630 share the same frame with the C-636. Best starting point is the Stewart/Bowser C-630 with Hi-Ad trucks. As soon as the Bowser Hi-Ad equipped C630s hit the market I plan on buying an undec to buld a PC unit. Got the build all planned out in my mind just waiting for the raw material to hit the market. Looks very straight forward to me, figure I'll scratchbuild the clean air compartment and the radiator compartment, and reuse the engine compartment, long hood end, and cab/subbase and walkway/pilots.
