YA BABY! I just looked through here again, nice job! I'm glad you have progress shots of this, anyone who thinks this thing came out of the box that way can see what you did,... if you show them that is. This is a very nice job on a very detailed unit. I know you did a lot of work on the brake blister, but I really like how much you put into the underframe. T Thanks Dan, glad you're still watching this one. Thankfully I didnt have to mess with anything below the walkways, or the walkways themselves, the long hood came right off since I hadnt glued anything yet. ;D Now I just have to re- primer and re-paint the long hood and the DB section and get back to it. More updates soon, Paul

Too bad that the decals were no good after all that work Paul. Stephen, It's one of the hazards of building out of production models, that means the decals aren't as fresh as when both the kit and the decals were new. I think Microscale did this sheet when the Athearn shell was the only game in town, so God knows how long they've sat at Walthers...no biggie. I'm already working with Plan B ;D Thanks for the kind words and following along, More soon! Paul

Glad to hear the decal problem has an easy recovery. Getting that close to completion and then having to back up and rework something really tries my patience. I hope the next round of decalling goes better and we can see that good looking engine completed soon.

Steve No Worries Steve, It happens to all of us once in a while ..I would be working on this one or my 45T-2R right now but my girlfriend is using my bench and tools to build her first locomotive. She's doing a 1995 era Santa Fe C44-9W, shes dremmeling out the roof of a non gull wing cab and making it into a gull wing cab, she bought the Details West Detail set for it earlier today. ;D I'm sitting on here every hour or so, going in to offer her advise on how to do what shes doing, in between I'm reading a new book I picked up today on the 45T-2. The GP60 will be back in top form in no time, thanks for checking in on it ;D Paul

Robert, she joined the DD last night and she can now post her own pics etc. I hope you guys are nice to her and encourage her to keep trying when she wants to quit..Her gull wing adventure tried both our patience, but shes got it roughed in now..I only had an Athearn 9-44CW with a standard cab for her to start with but she insisted it had to be Warbonnet Santa Fe unit.. so, a cutting we did go! She'll probably do her first post tonight in the "please introduce yourself" section. Paul

Paul That is awesome that you have a girlfriend interested and partisipating in the hobby. Let me know if you need any pointers in applying gloss coat. Glenn

Glenn Glenn, Im a lucky guy for sure..We use Scalecoat II( dries super hi gloss) so gloss coat is the last step over the decals, when she gets there you can tell her just how to do it! Save me the frustration ;D Paul

just passing through again and thought I'd note for future reference... I was looking at what Microscale has to offer in the way of bottles of liquids and there is one that you can apply to decals that are suspect due to age or other types of cracking. Instructions say to do that one at a time as you cut them out and use them.
I know you can spray the sheet with dullcoat or that there may be other tricks, but I think for the 2 bucks, I'd like to try that one!

Hey Dan thanks for checking in on this build again, I am still filling and snding out some minor issues, and sanded all the door hinges and pins that are way out of scale down to a more managable profile. This time the decals shouldnt have to fight so hard to conform.. More pics later this week. Paul
