Very cool project. I wonder why EMD never offered an SD30?

Very cool project. I wonder why EMD never offered an SD30? At the time EMD introduced the GP30 they were currently making the 2,400hp SD24. At this time evrything was about "Horse-Power" and more "Horse-Power", so making a 2,250hp SD30 would have been looked upon as a step backward. Dan

Thats pretty nice! I really like that paint scheme. Nice paint job on there no doubt! If that photo was in there some where, I missed it... I looked through what I thought was all pages of this thread. Still, Nice. Too bad EMD never built such a thing. David

Dan, do you have updated photos of the SD-30? I would like to include a photo in the next Diesel Detailer Logo.

Randy,
I haven't had a chance to start the weathering on her yet. But if you want I can take some shots of her as she is (unweathered) and send them to you.

Randy, Here are a couple of current shots. I'm in the same spot as you right now, too cold to paint seeing that I haven't got my spray booth operational yet

Looks great Dan, it's our first official SD-30 here. And its a B E A utiful locomotive as well. What did you use for the window gaskets? They look great!

Great Job, Dan! And I echo Andrew's remarks about your window gaskets, tell us what you used. It really makes a difference on anything but black (sorry, Randy) locomotives.

All I did was to paint the inside of the window openings flat black

Dan,
You did a damn nice job on that model. The workmanship is dead on and the way you approached the project and your reasoning for its construction is great! I think the use of the SD9 trucks is perfect as well. Probably what would have been used.
Very inspirational! I darn sure would like to put one of those on my to do project list. It is really cool!!!!

Ok, I don't want to be the bad guy here, but I must point this out, it has been irritating me the more I flip to each page, the shell is not sitting on the frame at the right height, it sits way too high above the trucks, another way you can tell is the bottom step on the pilot is supposed to be even with the roller bearing journal of the truck side frames. Other than that, this SD30 is rockin my world, outstanding work danraitz.

And I have a feeling its because of the air tanks above the fuel tank.

Freightrain, Your comments about the height made me curious. So I compared its height with one of my P2K GP30s and found that it does sit about 1 foot to high. See below. So it looks like I've got to some more milling work on the chassis.
