I currently started a project that is sitting on my bench for while. Its not a diesel, but a GE E60CF electric. I built the same out of an Bachmann years ago, but meanwhile my wish for more accuracy grew up. I removed all the casted on handrails and grabs, closed the front and end pilots, installed kadee gearboxes, mu hoses and some other details. The plastic pantograph was replaced by a metal one from an older Bachmann metroliner. Eventually i will replace the drive with a custom built one made out of Atlas parts. Thats how the model looks so far:

yeah--in a perfect world, I'd be able to model the ONtario Northland (which I do) and the Chicago, SouthShore & South Bend RR (Which I grew up about 6 blocks from the shops in Michigan City,IN) which I don't, because, I like Randy, Don't like to see electric layouts without catenary... But, that's good work on a pretty obscure railroad! Show us more!

That's a neat looking electric! If I recall correctly Walthers at one time produced models of the E60's, in addition to the Bachmann model.

Basically, thats right, but the Walthers model reflected a never built prototype while the Bachmann model was farely accurate... I have both, if you compare them you can see the differences: Bachmann (this is an older one i built years ago): The Walthers/American GK model:

Because "Foobies" make the bucks, and tooling costs. Imagine dropping $$$$ on new tooling for a model you could only get realistically painted in 3 roads... Probably why we don't see a lot of "unique" models anymore.

Bachmann originally made them only in Santa Fe Warbonnet and Chessie System, never BM&LP, although the latter is the only prototypically one...

Guys, i´m done. I finished the model today. Reason for the long delay was that i decided to have not only a good looking, but also a good running model. I ordered trucks and gear parts from Atlas, modified the frame and installed an Athearn RTR motor. Now the model runs beautiful. The image below shows the modified model compared with the original Bachmann drive: And here is the model finished: I will install a decoder later and add headlights and the mars light.

Looks good, I especially like the conversion you did to the chassis/drivetrain.

Can you explain how and what you did to the chassis/drivetrain to power it? Thanks

Not much. I glued in a massive piece of styrene in which i drilled a hole in the middle. In the hole i glued a small pin that fits in the hole on the Atlas trucks. Than i added the atlas gear case cover and the truck was in place. Thats it.

Micha, now get it matte and add some dust and a dry brush too it ... I can't remember them to be so fresh in paint when you showed me the pictures back in Lahnstein ;-)
