Now thats a cool looking RS-18! Looks like it would be fairly easy to kitbash using the Kaslo RS-18u kit. -Trevor

Trevor,
Can you tell us more about the parts from Andy W.?
> the filters are Andy W. Scale models C425 air intakes with one filter panel removed
Those might be some very useful parts... Brian

Sure Brian, Andy's website is: www.readytrain.com/pages/decals-parts-list.htmlScroll to the bottom of the page for the parts. The filters are part of a detail set to convert the Atlas C425 into a BCR unit, but I e mailed Andy and he sent me just the 3 panel filter parts. The parts are cast in transparent resin, priming the parts before use makes it easier to see them! You could also cut out the filters on the Atlas RS-36 body (front or rear) instead of using Andy's parts. Andy also builds amazing models of CP and BCR cabooses (cabeese?), I've got one of the BCR versions and the thing is better than the Overland model! -Trevor

I'm planning a similar RS-18. Thoses four doors at the generator section were causing some problems so I went and took measurements off a prototype yesterday. I found the doors to be 65 inchs high, and from the cab: 23 5/16, 14 3/4, 14 3/4, and 16 1/4 inchs wide. The screen openings are 18 1/2 high by 20 inchs wide. The bottom of the openings are 15 and 39 inchs from the bottom of the door. Also the electrical cabinet is 25 1/2 inchs from cab to first seam. Hope this helps.

Thanks Doug, I had access about a year ago to a scrapped ex. BCR RS-18 but I forgot to measure the doors. I did a bit of guess work when I built my doors, starting with the filtrs then figuring out where the doors would go. -Trevor

Thanks guys, I had a couple of days of bad weather/me being lazy that allowed me to finally get some Green paint on this project. Decalling has begun, hopefully I'll get more done before jetting off to Europe for a month. I've got some photo etched handrails that were made for the Kaslo RS18 to paint in addition to the decalling. I'm shooting for a project completion before the snow flies. -Trevor

More progress: Declaes are done, once they are sealed I have to add the rest of the hood door latches and paint the exhaust stack silver. Then I've got to paint the handrail stanchions and bend some wire, as well as making up a mount so I can screw the cab and short hood to the frame. Stay tuned....... -Trevor

Trevor, the only potential problem I see is that in the BCR pictures I remember, there were always at least two and usually more units. More work? But back to the project at hand: Man that is a really nice looking engine!

Eventually I want to do at least 3 more RS-18's, BC Rail had 2 different phases of RS-18's, the one I'm doing right now and another version with a long hood that is similar to an RS-36. A photo of this style can be found here: www.cnrphotos.com/gallery2/main.php?g2_itemId=48775I plan on using a Proto RS-18 as it has the correct height hood doors for this version as well as the correct fuel tank. I figure I'll do 2 in this style of body and one more (or two) of the #630 style. I just purchased a couple of undec Trainmen RS-36's and a bunch of resin and photo etched parts from a fellow BCR modeler, so I should have a fleet of RS-18's in the future. -Trevor

CN never had anything quite like that because they stopped buying RS18s by 1959.
These are later production RS18s with factory low nose that if anything are closer to an MLW version of an RS36.
