Short update. I finally took the time and attempted some home made wire handrails for the Green GP40tc. It wasn't really a choice thing, it was the only way to get handrails on the thing that I could figure out. I have never done brass handrails before, but I still like how they came out. I soldered the stanchions onto the wire, I think they came out OK. I am always amazed at people who get those exacting angles and perfectly vertical stanchions. On the Blue GP40tc I simply combined two atlas GP40 plastic handrails. I like how both worked out, not perfect, but for the first time doing this sort of thing I'm happy with how they turned out. Soon, they will be finished and my 70's-80's GO fleet will almost be complete.

I'm doing the same era in N-scale for CN. Hello, I had a question for you since you model CN, you must use those big white stripe decals on the side of your locos. Any idea what the best way is to get large decals to lay flat on the side of the loco body? I can't get my large "GO" logo on the tc to lay flat on the side doors, it makes little "tents" on the hinges for the doors. I use micro set then micro sol, but coat after coat of sol doesn't seem to get it to lay flat. I also tried Walther's solvaset with no better a result. Any hints you can get me will help. thanks

Inching ever closer to the finish on these tc's. The green and white one is almost done, I still have window glazing and wipers to add, also an antenna and thats it. The same is true for the Blue guy, it needs glazing and wipers. Also I haven't gotten the large "GO" on the side correct yet. I had some decals made but the white bars on the interior of the "GO" were too thick and threw off the scale to back to the drawing board. Hopefully in a couple weeks I'll have a accurate one. I do have a question for the boards though. The large "GO" logo I tried had real trouble snuggling onto the side of the diesel. I could never get it to sit around all the grooves and hinges on the side. I did micro set and micro sol but it never got as settled as I'd like. I then tried another on a test side and used walther's solve a set. That didn't work either. I have a theory that some of the problem is that the side of the blue diesel is too matte and if I glossed it up it would adhere better. Any additional input would be helpful, thanks guys.

I am going to finish out this thread soon. I finished two of the GP's today, the Green GP40tc and a GP40-2w. Here are some pics of the final diesels. In a week or two I'll have the new side logo for the Blue GP40tc and it will be done, and some new trucks will finish off the GP40. After that next up are the Hawker Siddeley cars. My friend should have a rough wire frame to look at Monday. I'll start a new thread for those. Here are the GP's

Well this thread is about finished. I just finished the blue and white GP40tc so thats it for all the GP's. Here are some photos. Next I'm attempting to make some Hawker Siddeley cars to go with this diesel, I have a friend working on a file to be printed, we'll see how it goes. Here is the GP40tc:

I have to say, I have enjoyed this thread as well...being an HO guy, I have been a lot luckier that the Go stuff I needed was obtainable "store bought" but this has been fun watching your fleet come together.

Craig thanks Craig, I would have loved to do HO, would have been better on my eyes, but I can do a larger layout with N, and in some ways I prefer the challenge of making the custom diesels. I might do an HO scale GO F40PH just to have one since its my favorite engine. Maybe put in a switch back.

I haven't commented in a few, but I've really enjoyed watching these units come together, particularly the TC's. Except for the handrails and HEP units, I don't notice a difference between your unit and the Shapeways shell. Both look great.
Didn't the purple units wear some sort of 9000-series number at one time?
