They look awesome! The paint doesn't look that thick to me. So why is the F59 camera shy?

Well since you were curious, here's a better look at the F59PH. I have a thread on some of the process of cutting up the other engines to make this one on the boards. I replaced the front stanchions and rails with custom made ones but I hadn't installed them in this picture yet. I also added the top long grab across the cab, in this photo they are plastic. This engine started as a F59PHI and an SD50w. It was a lot of work and I made it thinking I'd never find an N scale kaslo kit and now I have two of those. This was fun to do though, just to see if I could get it to work. It is lacking a but of precision though, being my first attempt. I could never get things as "crisp" as I would like. Here it is next to the engine it used to be, the Athearn F59PHI
and a couple more, here I started to paint the class lights and I installed the grabs on the top of the cab.
When I do a little more work I'll add some final pictures of this. It was a great learning experience making this from scratch, and the other engines I have built definitely benefitted from what I learned making this one. I am really curious how some people get such great custom handrails made, mine look a little wobbly but I still think they look better than the plastic ones. I don't have them installed in these pictures. I also need some window glazing for this engine if anyone has any ideas, I'm not sure the original windows will still fit.

Here's another update for anyone still curious. I have been doing very small things, adding builder's plate decals, the HEP connectors on the front of the GP40-2w, some small "caution no foothold" decals as well. These three bodies are basically finished and waiting a semi clear coat to finish them off. I image I should wash them in warm water first to get all the micro sol off yes? Here are some shots, still have to connect all the hand rails on the GP and make two more rails for the front porch. I'll connect it all once I get the body together.
Finally here is a shot of the next wave of locomotives in my fleet. I'm working on two kaslo F59PH, one more F40PH, and an FP7. You can see the F59PH I kit bashed out of an Athearn F59phi and an SD50 sitting below, it's just about finished as well. I'll be trying to finish up most of the 1980's GO Fleet, so I also have a B unit incoming which will double as a track cleaner, and my most ambitious kit bashes to date which will be the Hawker Siddeley Cab Car and the GP40tc, thats going to take a while.

DON'T wash the shells before sealing. The water will lift the decals right back off. You can use a damp cosmetic sponge or q-tip to wipe them off gently if you want. But too much water will ruin the decals before they're sealed.

Awesome! Can't wait to see the TC!
Can I make a suggestion? You should lopp off the stacks btwn the fans and remove the steam generator details on the FP7. There were a few different options for exhaust stacks on the back of the roof, but most were just a short black stack sticking up through the hatch right behind the trapezoidal intake.

iomalley, yes thank you thats just the advice I need, also thank you slow freight, I'm glad I asked about washing the finished engines, close one! I was rushing the FP7 but you are right tomalley, I should cut the stacks and do it right, the green paint will cover the work I do on the white level. I have a couple good looks at the roof, I'll do it right! thanks!!

haven't had an update in a while, but I am finally almost finished painting the second round of engines. Here is a picture. I still need to add the missing grabs, paint the top box of the F40PH silver, but basically I can probably start doing decals next week. I am still waiting for some parts so I can finish the front pilots on my previous GO units, but when I have everything back together I'll post the whole fleet. The below units are: 2 Kaslo F59PH, 1 KAto F40PH, one Intermountain FP7 and one Intermountain F7B. My total fleet has two more F40PH both Kato, and a custom Atlas GP40-2 wide cab, and a custom F59PH made from various parts and sitting on an Athean motor.

You've definitely got a fleet going there. Got enough cars to pull?
With the F unit power cars, it sure would be nice if someone made the old Hawker Siddley single-level cars.

I forget how many cars I have now, I've been stock piling them for years so I think I got around 21 last time I counted, that includes Cab cars. I am also working on a Hawker Siddley cab car but that is slow going, if I can finish detailing these I'll get to work on that and the GP40tc. Both of those are in the planning stages. Then I'm about done with kit bashing. I might try to make some Hawker single level coaches but thats a ways away.So far the only one that is about finished is the GP40-2w I built, it has sound decoder and final details. If I can I'll post a final picture soon. I almost finished my kit bash F59PH but unfortunately while it fits an Athearn F59phi chassis it sits too high and I can't rectify the difference. I'm gonna have to put it on an F40ph chassis instead which is fine but now I need to order two more f40ph ugh. bye bye $$$ lol

The FP7 and B-unit are almost ready for decals, still doing some small painted details here and there and I need to add a couple more grab irons on the nose of the FP7 and on the back of the B-unit, getting there though

Here is the finished GP40-2w, I have an MRC sound decode installed which is working great. Hand grabs and fans are from BLMA, and other fine detail parts from Miniatures by Eric. The body and motor are Atlas, and the cab is a Kaslo resin kit. Decals are a combination of custom ones I made and Highball graphics. I used Scalecoat paint G.O. Green and white, though honestly I think the green is a bit too yellow fro GO Transit, I should have added some blue to it but I can live with it. I'm still missing one set of hand rails for the front porch but I wanted to run it a little so here ya go.

Getting so close, here is a shot of the FP7 with some of the decals applied. Of course in the final stages I go to reinstall the number boards and I can't find them. I contacted Intermountain so I'll see if they can replace them, anyone have any ideas on some options in case I can't get replacement parts? I could fill them with styrene but I'd rather go with some other simpler option. Anyway little by little, the F7b is also near completion but I just realized I don't have green numbers for it uuuuuggggghhhhh!!!

That's looking pretty snappy, I must say!
The GO Transit power cars are pretty easy compared to LIRR, since they were left almost completely stock in the beginning.

Here is a GO Transit update. I have pretty much finished my FP7 conversion. This started as an Intermountain FP7 in Ontario Northland paint scheme. It was engine ON #1504 which was actually later sold to GO Transit and renumbered GO #907 so I did the same thing to my engines. AS you can see I am missing one of the front window glazing but hopefully a fellow board member will help me replace it soon Hooray for the boards! This was a pretty easy conversion, I made the small triangular exhaust out of styrene and a fine mesh, then I used a small pipe for the exhaust in the back, sanded and filled in some windows and details but overall comparatively pretty easy. I am waiting on some numbers for the B-unit so I can finish it. slowly but surely getting there one engine at a time.

those are some great shots! thank you, if I make another I'll update it, as it is I like the little detail I have in there though the way it actually is would have been easier to do!! lol My mind said it just can't be that simple!! oh well more accurate next time!
