I can't get over the difference between the sideframes and the fuel tanks. That's insane!!! Like you said, there isn't a mark on the sideframes and the painted one I posted wasn't sanded or anything - all I did was soak it in 95% EtOH to dissolve the casting wax from the holes.
You are right, everything should be printed in Ultra Frosted Detail as opposed to any lesser grade material.

Very neat Mark. I didn't know a thing about 3D printing before I met Chris (then again, I only thought there were three scaless - O HO and N - my how things have changed) but we have spent countless hours talking about it either via email or during out weekly, 45 minute commutes to operating sessions. He has me sold that this is the way of the future.
If these model railroad companies can invest several grand into a 3D printer, I really think they can print everything they need other than maybe the main shell, which would save big bucks and time constructing molds for injection casting.

Apparently the 3D printer Bowser got was "only" $5000.00. For that kind of quality, that doesn't sound like a bad investment.
Mark.

I think that 3D printing really opens up some new opportunities and it certainly is something I'm trying to leverage to make these parts available. More than just the printers, I'm really impressed with the user experience that firms like Shapeways and iMaterialize have crafted to make it so easy for folks to simply upload a model and have it printed. It's amazing.

Those are really nice looking. Now he needs to do the parts to convert BLI's RSD-15 into CP's RSD-17. Long Hood vertical I.D. - 1 1/8", Long Hood vertical O.D. - 1 3/8" Long Hood horizontal I.D. - 11/16", Long Hood horizontal O.D.13/16" Short Hood vertical I.D. - 9/16", Short Hood vertical O.D. - 3/4" Short Hood horizontal I.D. - 11/16", Short Hood horizontal I.D. - 7/8" BLI sent me the above dimensions today. ID means inside diameter and OD meant outside diameter.

After I get the RSC13 and RS3 online I will have the RS18u short hood available and may pair it with a CP RS18 end too. That should be the parts needed, fundamentally, to tidy up the Broadway engine. Thanks again!

Can you add an MS10 (S7) end to your collection of MLW hood ends?

Can you add an MS10 (S7) end to your collection of MLW hood ends? I'd like to. I'm a little concerned about the effect of grain direction across the screen that covers the radiator. Polishing the face shouldn't be hard but might be tricky. Aside from the above, it shouldn't be hard to put this together using my existing catalogue of parts. CP RS18u ends will be next, following the RS3 that I'm completing now. Thanks for the suggestion.

Sean, sorry. I was thinking S13 when I posted my reply and no sooner did I click on post did I realise my mistake. I intend to put together an S13 end and certainly can also do the S7 you've asked for.
Sorry
/chris

Can you add an MS10 (S7) end to your collection of MLW hood ends? Of course....right after I finished 8118. Oh well at least I still have one to build so it will be easier!

Yeah I did 8218...thanks for that. Sanded every rivit off that body, cut out and replaced the doors on the long hood and rounded the cab windows. My second 82xx will possibly be tackled after the six RS-18's I'm doing this fall and the 5 C424's.
I'm really impressed with Chris Sean, his work is amazing. I have the test print of the sideframes at home. I painted one and left the other one bare as a comparison to show people at shows, etc. I didn't even touch it with sandpaper and its just as smooth as injection molded parts!

Thanks guys, I really appreciate the enthusiasm for this project.
I'm really proud to announce that over the past 24 hours I've been able to finalise a pile of design work and the RS10/14/18, RSC13/24, and RS3 ends are now available in HO and the RS18 series end is in N. I already have the next round of parts underway and will keep uploading as I go.
Thanks again for the support. Most of these parts are things or approaches that I've been daydreaming about for a while in terms of "Geez, I wonder why...or if...?" so if feels neat to start exploring the idea further.

I've been toying with the idea of getting one and offering some kits, and that would be about my price range. I figure if I have 3-4 kits already modeled and ready to print (working out the bugs with Shapeways test prints), it wouldn't be hard at all to make the money back.

the outside faces are quite smooth, maybe a light sand, or possibly just the primer and paint will do it. Most of the lines are on the inside face, but can be seen as the parts are transparent. The last photo is the rectangle mount head lights, very hard to get a good photo due to the size
