So, I'm still working on these getting a couple small things done on each one at a time.
But, today I made a list of everything I could think of that I still wanted to do to the
Athearn GP38-2; BNSF 2314.
-thisa one:
dieseldetailer.proboards.com/thread/5336/gp38-2-bnsf-2314Here's a pic of the frame which I stripped, cut, added the sheet of plastic to the ends of
the fuel tank and started on the coupler pockets. This is the first time I've tried that. It's
also something I really want to do to all my Athearn BB units but wouldn't start on it until
I had a good mental image of how to make it work. Now, although the pocket detail isn't
finished, the good thing is that the pocket works. It's sized so the shell fits onto the frame,
and so I can slide in a #5 coupler with the brass spring and the half of the Kaddee #5 box
with the centering ring on it, which was made a bit thinner in through the front. That whole
assembly just fits past the Details West buffer plate I'm using on this one.
So now, here's that list of what came to mind to finish this model. (-kinda long huh? lol)
drain pipe, left side fuel tank front
coupler pocket details & buffer plate
air reservoirs & piping
wast retention tank & bracket
make channel for drop step
drill for: ditch lights, mu stands, stanchions
cut for fuel gauges
drill for spare coupler bracket
add sheet plastic to top of filter box
finish clean air room doors
drill for lift rings under radiator grilles on rear
cab assembly:
plate over 2 louvers on cab/short hood
fix channel of headlight on the nose
drill for antennas
set up/test fit sun shades
re-drill for mirrors
