I plan to model an FPA4 using a Proto 2000 as a starting point, I’m looking for some help to put a parts list together. Thank you, Pierre

Check out Minatures By Eric for sure. He's got the fuel tank and some other parts unique to FPA-4's that I can't remember

Check out Minatures By Eric for sure. He's got the fuel tank and some other parts unique to FPA-4's that I can't remember Jays Trains used to make the FPA4 fuel tank, but they're long sold out. MBE does make an FPA4 fuel tank, but I've never seen it. (other than the tiny shot on their website) MBE does have the horn (H21 listed but I'd Use H15) and roof mounted bell, (B7) and you can use their Steam genny set (G3 or G4) and antennae (A1) too. Details assoc. has Farr grille which you need, and details west for the MU hoses. Some notable mods to the body, remove the flutes on the nose on both sides of the bumper (under the nose door) and remove the pothole windows on the side doors (to the engine room...i forgot to do this) SCratchbuilding a fuel tank is not a super hard feat, they are very angular and easy to replicate with styrene...

Sean, I have a few Jay’s tanks for future projects, I know there’s difficult if not impossible to find; I’m thinking of doing a CN version as well. Very nice FPA-4 by the way, did you lower it and did you use the Proto trucks? Pierre

I’ve downloaded lots of photos from the web but can’t seem to find any good roof top photos (close-ups) that really show some detail. Would appreciate some assistance locating a few good roof top photos. Thank you.

m636 Thank you for posting the FPA-4 roof top photo...if you have a close-up of the bell area, that would be a big help.

A few days late, but here are a pair of overhead shots that I took of of VIA 6780 and 6871 in Saint John, Sept 1985. (I can't see Eric's images so I don't know if they may have been better than these ones, taken with a 110 film point-and-shoot camera) One of my projects is also converting a P2K FA2. I've removed most of the roof detail and replaced it with more accurate parts from DA, and have the rest of the pieces from MBE yet to go on. The tank is one of Jay's pieces (it may have come to me by way of Miguel through evilBay - can't recall exactly whom I got them from). I realized while reading these posts that I need to fill in the porthole window And also have a question...how to make the DA 2701 grilles 'shorter' to fit in the screen area along the upper sides. That's my only stumbling point so far...

A note, some units had the antenna on the engineroom hatch as shown above, others had it ahead of the hatch on the cab roof.

That's my only stumbling point so far... I forgot the porthole on my build. The DA grilles fit nicely between the rows of rivets, offset from the moulded grilles, except for nearest the cab where those rain gutters (?) interfere. I just cut a notch in the grilles with a sharp pair of surgical scissors, or you can notch the shell.
