I know it has been awhile since I have posted anything. Here is a project I have been working on, a Keokuk Junction CF7 #488. I am about ready to start painting. Then the problem will be the decals. I have the art work done and I tried to print on Microscale decal film with an ink jet printer and the printing beaded up. Any suggestions? Maybe spray the the decal film with dulcote or something first or is there a different brand of decal film I should use? Any help would be greatly appreciated! When I am done it should look something the one in this link: www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=30635&nseq=63

highball graphics is back in the custom decal biz. If your artwork is vector-based and in either illustrator or corel, it will save you greatly in cost. www.mgdecals.com/homepage.htmgreat progress BTW!

I'm afraid I can't help with the printing issues but just want to say I'm looking forward to seeing the model completed. This is one that's on my short list to do as well, I've got the loco but have yet to strip it. I've barely started the decal artwork, maybe I'll hold off and see what yours look like! ;D

Thank you for the compliments everyone.
Lyle, pm me your email address and I will send you the artwork that I have. Are you going to be building any of the other unit?
Randy, they had those HE15s from the CNW, now those are ugly! They also had some Paducah rebuilds and for a while they leased a RS1325 (C&IM 30) and the former Quad City Rocket CF7. Back then they had the nick name "Road of Mutants."

pm sent re artwork. I've considered a couple of other related locos but they're way down the road. The RS1325 is one, a TP&W GP20 another

Good Stuff, Eric. I've been waiting on this one for a while since you told me about it.
You need to contact me one of these days and come up and run trains again. I'm still waiting to see that detoured S.W. Chief!

I have made some progress. I used Floquil Reefer Orange for the orange and the oxide red (it is not as brown as it looks in the picture) on the roof is custom mixed. Now I am waiting for some decal film to arrive so I can get the decals printed. These colors really don't like to be photographed.

Eric, you might try using a dark grey background to take your pictures with, it should come out better.

Try taking the decal film to a kinkos (office max wont do it around me) and have them print up the decals on their color laser printers. It might take some convincing them that it wont damage their printer but they usually dont have a problem with it. They'll come out a lot crisper that way vs your inkjet printer. And it only costs about a buck a sheet. Ive done it quite a few times now for my own custom decals. Just remember to spray them with dullcoat and let everything dry for a few days before you use them.

Cheers,

Eric, amazing to see your approach on the CF7! I had my issues as well and recently finished it. Can you tell me your trick on doing those coupler lift bars? I guess all hand made? And how do you attach them to the pilot?
Thanks,

Hi everyone, thank you for the compliments. It has been awhile since I have made any progress but I have gotten some work done recently. Also I see I have missed some questions. Jason, I used 91% Isopropyl. It attacked the Athearn paint very quickly. Liquidfantasy, the lift bars are bent out of .010 phoshor bronze. they were done in 5 sections starting with the center section. All of the ends of each section go into holes drilled into the pilot and are glued from the back side. Next time I will do them them 7 sections as the wire is fragile from bending and rebending. You can see in the picture below were the wire broke. Here is the progress that has been made.

Quite a sharp looking CF7! Almost makes me want to do up an ugly-duckling CF7 (almost )
