Last weekend I started working on another MKT what-if fantasy locomotive: an EMD SD60. This locomotive fills in the gap between their last real order of SD40-2s and my proto-lanced SD70MAC and it keeps the trend with MKT ordering motive power in step with BN. This locomotive started out as an Athearn Conrail SD60, which is perfect because the trucks and fuel tank are already black. I took out the Athearn drive and sold it, which will be replaced with a Kato. I also junked the Athearn cab and its 1-million separate window pieces and replaced it with an Atlas GP40-2 cab. This also cures the problem of the taped/glued-in light bulbs. And I have an extra set of factory black handrails on hand since those Athearn handrails are a trick to repaint. I call this a "Katheas" model. Here's how it looks now after the paint job; decals are next...

That is too cool!!!! I love this , hey after this maybe a regular cab SD70 is next? Then a wide cab SD70M which would come next in the line.

Thanks! I was actually thinking of taking a step back in time and modeling an SD50S in MKT. That would create a fleet somewhat similar to KCS but skipping the regular SD50. I have an extra SD50 shell sitting around that I could use to kitbash it, so I all I need is an Sd45-2 or SD40-2 frame...

Finished the decals and now it's ready for weathering: Hopefully it will be done in a day or so.

Man that is so cool and plausible looking. The only I think they would have differently was to put the numbers on the cab side like the SD40's were. What green did you use?

Regarding the number placement, I am following the original green/yellow paint scheme where they would put the number on the top of the long hood if there wasn't a dynamic brake assembly there, like these motors: www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=380948&nseq=11I used Badger Modelflex Katy Green for the green paint. Here's some photos of the shell after weathering. Now I just have to assemble everything and repower the motor with the new Kato drive.
