Here's a photo of a similar Athearn-Kato drive swap in my SOO SD60 that I finished today. The Kato drive almost fits right into the Athearn frame; you just have to mill down the sides a little because the plastic part that the drive sets in is a little wider for the Kato. The four pegs line up perfectly for the holes in the Athearn frame and I reuse the same screws. The driveshafts fit perfectly instide the Kato drive. Then you just have to rewire it to the Athearn circuit board and you have a smooth-running locomotive!
