This really looks amazing, I love the way all those Cannon doors and details look. Pity you have to paint it, but the end effect is worth it. Very nice build!

Thanks for the positive comments!!!
I'm now undecided for walkway tread....I have both Cannon, and Railflyer. Are there pros/cons to either?? I thought about Archer, but the step well to pilot joint is far from a perfect fit, so it needs an overlay.....

You could go with a styrene overlay between the step well and pilot plate, then apply Archer decal tread to the overlay (just a thought).

She Looks Amazing!! As far as which treadplate to use depends on what you want, I purchased Railflyer for one build because he produces a set that had a unique tread style for an SD40. And I have Cannon sets that I bought that fit another project, From what I have seen either is an excellent choice when it comes to product or service. I also have used the A=line steps as well, as far as those three there are no bad choices, provided the part fits.

I was looking at it last night, and an overlay with the Archer decal looks like the easiest. I'll just have to overlay the end walkways. I also like the idea of a plastic-to-plastic joint rather than a plastic-to-brass joint.

Out of curiosity, what trucks are you using under the Railflyer frame? Also, is your motor inline with the worm gear or is it angled?
Really nice work. Gives me some inspiration to get modeling again.

Haven't forgotten about this one. I've been messing with lighting options, and it looks like fiber optics are going to be the way. I can run them from the ditch, head, and class lights realy easy, and mount the lights where I have room.
I ended up with Athearn Genesis trucks. They are narrower in cross-section, so I wouldn't have to remove as moch material from the frame.
The shafts do angle down slightly to the trucks, but without major surgery to the frame, I can't get the motor to sit much lower.
Brian, I used your site as refrence, and encouragement during this build. Thanks!!!

Any progress on this beast? It's too cool to not follow BTW, I've got a GO ex-Rock GP40 that needs new pilots and ditch lights. What do you recommend?

Progress is slow but gaining. I ran out of ambition when I started looking for a correct paint. I finally found the PPG formula for Go Transit green and I have had a pint mixed. Now, all I have to do is blow all of the dust off of it and find the parts!!!
Honestly, I haven't looked at a Ex-RI unit, so I'm not sure. Let me do some looking....

They had the same short hood, pilot, and nose detail as what you used. I found Pactra had a green that worked well next to Athearn and Atlas, but I ran out of ambition on my 800-series power car when I couldn't find any decals.

If they are the same, I was going to use Railflyer pilots. Unfortunatly, I ordered the wrong ones, so, I just cut some out of 0.010" styrene. The ditch lights are DA castings on scratchbuilt brackets. I also scratchbuilt the anticlimber

Finally bit the bullet on this one and tackled the treadplate on this project.

Keep smokin' this one, cargostar. The TC was always one of my favorites--and will probably NEVER show up in plastic. Don't even think it's been done in brass. This will definitely be one of the only models out there.
