Artur~
Nicely done on the uncoupling levers, your results put my efforts to shame! Please tell me this isn't the first time you have made these before.

Thanks, I made uncoupling levers before but never the F/E unit. I purchased the F unit uncoupling lever by Details West but I wasn't happy with it.

Artur~
Your results are really impressive. I have been trying to make some credible E/F uncoupling levers for awhile. If you get the chance could you maybe show us your methods?

Regards, PVRR2647 Ya no problem, I still have to make the rear leaver. I'm in Old Sacramento right now and I was able to snap some close ups of the Southern Pacific E8 they have here. Really cool to see one, I was lucky enough to be here when they fired it up.

Artur~
Thank you so much, I look forward to seeing your process. I assume that you are referring to the 6051, how did she sound when fired up? Making the pilgrimage out west is on my railfan bucket list, but that will have to wait until the children are older. Enjoy the weather out there, it's freezing rain here on the east coast and tomorrow calls 2" of rain with 40mhp wind, ouch!!! Now I really wish I was in California.

Your black paint is nice and flat, what do you use?
I wish VIA had've plated over that one side porthole in the logo...it looked half assed.

Artur~
My goodness this unit is beautiful, excellent work. Thank you for posting the process for building the coupler cut levers. I have been soldering mine, your process produces much better results. I will have to give it a try.
Thanks again, PVRR2647

Artur,
Could you explain a little how you lowered the shell? Was it just trimming down the weight or was it a bit more involved?
Thanks,
Chris

Artur, Could you explain a little how you lowered the shell? Was it just trimming down the weight or was it a bit more involved? Thanks, Chris I think the weight might have to be trimmed down, I trimmed mine down quite a bit for other reasons so I don't know if there is any play. but all you need is a 1.5 - 2mm. I removed the fuel tank and added styrene strips to the bottom of the locomotive, when the fuel tank is slipped back on it will sit lower this will allow the shell to sit lower as well. I would recommend 1.5 to maybe 1.8mm any lower and it can make contact with the break cylinders. Now the front pilot needs to be attached to the shell, trim off the clips that attach it to the frame.

Thanks for the info! Will give it a shot on the E8 I've been fiddling with.

Artur~
Really excellent build. Looks like it runs as smooth as glass too. It sounds like it has a 645 turbo, if I'm hearing it correct? Please excuse my asking: what did the prototype have? I assumed twin 12-567, or did Via upgrade these to 645s at some point?
Respectfully, PVRR2647

This is the only decoder I had. but if I find out the correct sound decoder for the E8 I might get it depending on the price.

Artur~
I spend way to much time trackside in my spare time, I happen to work at electrical generating facilities that are roughly parallel to the B&A. So needless to say I can also tell when a EMD is in a consist from a mile away. My commute to and from work takes me over PAR and PVRR trackage as well. What brand of decoder do you have in the locomotive now ? ESU LokSound or SoundTraxx Tsunami ?
Regards, PVRR2647
