In regards to some questions about the exposed roller bearing caps. Details West makes the Temken bearing caps that can fit into any side frame. These views are of modified Athern side frames that are under my NS GP40X. Four bearing are mounted on the ends of the axle and spin while in motion. But they must be a perfect 90 degrees so they will not bind in the side frames. Also the hole to be drilled in the side frames should be one size bigger than what is recommended to fit the bearing cap. Keep in mind these parts were not intended to be used as an operating peace. But rather stationary in the side frames. Although this technique doas make for a great effect at slow speeds. The bearings that are behind the dampers do not spin as they would be seen as good. A bearing cap was placed in the side frame and is visible behind the shock dampers. What ever you wish to call them. The speed recorder covers one bearing, So nothing is behind that, LOL! In this view, The cap to the left spins. Both caps in the view spin as the shock damper has been removed. David S.

In the album, you will see the boxes below the photos. Do a cut and paste of the link where it says DIRECT LINK. Then you can come here, click the little photo, and put the cut and paste address between the goal posts.

Thats really cool. I built an SP SD40M-2 out of a Kato SD45 that should have those roller bearings. Have you tried it on a Kato truck by chance?

Stephen,
Having that mill will make a lot of projects so much easier now. I am working out the kinks on turning the Atlas, Athearn, and Kato trucks to do the same thing. When Brian Banna developed the adapters for Athearn sideframes to mount on Atlas trucks, the creative juices began flowing. Relocating the copper strip behind the wheels is what I plan on doing. When I get to that point (which will probably be a while) I'll post a tutorial on how to do it. ;D
