Heres a project im working on. But I have a question. Between the word Amtrak and the yellow strip, What is that thing? At first I thought it was a log grab iron, but now it kinda looks like a piece of angle iron. Im not really sure. Does anybody know?

I believe thats a step (elongated piece of metal) used by cleaning crews to clean the windshield on that side. There should be another on the other side as well. There are units (not this railroad) that have grab irons all the way up the side of the nose, and some that have a grab with 2 raised rounded ends that a ladder was hooked onto to accomplish the same task. Look through "Fallen Flags" or "Northeast Rails" websites to see other units with these features. Joe Hueber

I'm sure it's mounted behind the pilot where you wouldn't see it anyway.
