Pretty sweet Randy! Did you paint this in the 'Old Woman' scheme?

My contribution to the party: Many thanks to m636, as I copied the underframe detailing largely from the photos in this thread. Kaslo might just as well said in the directions to carve off anything from the Atlas frame that didn't look lile an M420. Great kits, but they still require some improvisation. These are currently cycling through the paint shop/

Well, it turns out I could only find one of 8 units that didn't have some sort of mod to the fuel tank on the fireman's side. Don't know what it is, but I couldn't avoid building it because that unit which didn't have it sported rebuilt stepwells that I didn't care to add...more work to fix stepwells, even though the kit included that option, than to fix the tank. I wasn't thrilled with the amount of rebuilding the tanks require on the A units. They're really only correct on the B units.

Is that a CN or BCOL unit? It looks like a more traditional waste oil retention tank. The BCOL apparatus was only on the fireman's side.

The addition you added to the diesel fuel tank is a diesel warmer for use on the northern parts of the BCR. Very nice touch by adding that!

I just feel like if I slave over it for this many hours, I should make the unit as accurate as I can stand.
Meanwhile, continued painting has been delayed while I wait for a horn I ordered from Miniatures by Eric. Mail to/from Canada takes an eternity.

A CN unit from when I was working in Churchill. I have 12 or 15 pics of that unit

Wow! Your detail is amazing! I’m almost ready for paint on a BCR unit. The only thing I have not pre fit is the coupler cut bars. To reference your unit in the 6th photo from the start, what did you use for the brackets that hold the lift bars? Where are these from? Did you make yourself? It’s the only detail on my model that’s bugging me and I don’t believe the parts can with the kit? Thanks for your help Shane

Tons of progress...I promise new pics soon. Both units are painted and decaled. The B unit is weathered. I added non-sound decoders to both units, and then got stuck working out the lighting on the A unit. My first attempt did not succeed. I tried to use long fiber optics back to LEDs in the cab. Instead I will try the 0402s with longer pigtails and very short fiber optic lenses, mounting them directly behind the light housing.
This is the first time I've added lighting--or DCC for that matter--to a locomotive. Previously, I just ignored lights, figuring I'd add them when I finally converted to DCC.
Shane, not sure what the OP did for cut levers, but I used old-style DA cut levers and some lift rings, as it seemed to match the 1980-era BCOL setup the best.

Fantastic models. The challenging ones are the most satisfying in the end.
