I bought the cannon fuel tank detail set. However there is no diagram showing where the parts go, just some text. A picture would really be helpful. P

Best thing to do is find some detail Pics and replicate the photo as different units had different layouts and options.

I think that set is way overated. I bought one and I didn't use half of the set. I like the new Details West items better.

Acually, im doing a Penn Central GP38 from Atlas. Ive been studing every PC GP38 photo I come across (and there are tons of them). And that stuff isnt there. I have come to the conclusion that the set is more for newer stuff and not 1970s GP38s. Atlas (in my opinion) has been doing very good work with detail, and Im satisfied with the detail on their fuel tanks, so im going to leave it alone. P

That kit is great if you are doing an Athearn tank or scratchbuilding one yourself. When you start getting into the upper level models, it becomes less usefull. There still are parts from that kit that may be required (The angled bracket for instance) that could still be applied or if, like CN, has fuel fillers in the middle of the tank, not on the end as the model is produced. I think you would be hard pressed to put all of them on the model.

The Fuel Tank Detail set is somewhat generic in nature. It provides a collection of detailed parts that can be used on a lot of engines. Can you use all on one engine, unlikely. Do you get enough parts, most of the time. Will the set make every one happy? Judging from the comments above, no. However that was not the intent.
The set was procuced before I purchased the company, so I do not have insight into what was included or where everything goes. Refer to your pictures.
I hope this answers your question.

Thanks for the input Dave, I've purchased $327.00 worth of Cannon parts this year so I don't feel too bad.
