I have recently pulled out a long-dormant Southern/NS GP35 project out of the to-do closet, using the the Kato GP35 and all applicable Cannon parts, including the new cab interior kit. Now of course this cab kit and it's short hood wall is geared towards a low hood loco, which begs the question: what exactly does the short hood end of a high hood locomotive look like? Is there a door to access the toilet, access panels, etc? Inquiring minds want to know..... ;D

Does this help? Looks the same as any other short hood, just taller.

Dave, not sure about the Southern/NS, but the inside cab wall on the older GP's of the IC had a door (that opened out into the cab) to the right side of the short hood end. The left side was just a blank metal wall with maybe a flag holder/fusee rack mounted on the wall, next to the water cooler electrical outlet.

Dave: re-reading my original post I now see I didn't phrase it as well as I should have: what I was wanting to ask was what does the interior cab wall on the short hood end of a high hood loco look like. Nice pic though.... Robert: thanks, kinda figured it would be something like that. I had a brain storm last night after I posted this in that The Roundhouse musuem in Savannah, which is a couple of hours from me, has a Savannah & Atlanta/SOU GP35 on display, and next time I'm home on leave may take a ride up there and see if they would relax the "No climbing on displays" rule long enough for me to take a peek inside the cab

Chuck, I've researched this a little more. How about these- NW 620-GP9 but still probably close...most EMD's are pretty similar. SOU 2601-GP30. Not a GP35 but just the same as anything else. Looks like a grey wall, a door, and a box for the fusees and torpedoes.

Dave, those do indeed help a bunch; especially since I have a GP30 in the pipe too . I think the GP9 shot is also the first one I have seen that gives a good reference for the use of the Cannon windshield wiper motor inside the cab door as well...thanks a bunch!

Will do, if I can get the digital cam away from the wife long enough; our Thoroughbred (the 4-legged kind) had a foal Thursday night, and she has been hogging the camera, LOL

I was up in the cab of the N&W SD45 in Roanoke many years ago - I know I took pictures, but I'll have to locate them. Essentially, it was the same layout as a low-nose, but raised up a few feet and therefore not needing a staircase down. There was a door on the right side (see the pictures of the GP30 above) that led into the nose, which had a toilet and was pretty much laid out the same as the nose of any low-nose EMD, except the floor was level with the floor of the cab. It was just tall enough that you could stand up in there, which I recall hearing that the NS crews liked! The weird thing was that the semi-transparent numberboards on the nose didn't have backing (most locomotives are like this), so there was actually sunlight in the bathroom.....

Well, made the trip, and was able to take a peek in the cab.....unfortunately couldn't get inside due to the cab being locked and no one on site having keys today...took some shots through the window and hopefully they turned out ok; the wife is burning me a disc tonight. Did get some very nice detail shots of the fuel tank, air tanks, underframe, and all the other delicious details....hopefully will be able to post some soon
