A good friend a few months ago handed me a bag full of different shells from F7 A's and B's, a Baldwin S12, and a little something I wasn't suspecting, a true EMD GP9B. Needed some clean-up, removed a lot of oversprayed paint and old peeling decals, added it to an old Athearn GP7 chassis, and here she is:

She'll stay black and will eventualy receive the Penn Central worm. I just added an Athearn GP7/9 handrail set the other day. Rolls really good on the dummy chassis.

The PennCentral GP9B's were actually PRR Ex Pennsylvania RR GP9B's The New York Central Railroad did not have GP9 B units..

The PennCentral GP9B's were actually PRR Ex Pennsylvania RR GP9B's The New York Central Railroad did not have GP9 B units.. Correct, only the UP and PRR had them. And they did not last very long on the UP. PRR's lasted into Conrail as CR 3838 was a CR Blue GP9B.
