Ive never sen one like that. Why not just put the controls inside the nose? Do they need regular access to that stuff for remote control?

Assuming they wanted to keep the dumper in the nose, there's not a whole lot of room in there. In there, I (being 6'1" tall) could not stand up straight, and had to stoop over. if I stretched my arms out I could almost nearly touch the inside of the bracing. In ex-EssPee SD45s, at least, there's also large box that houses something or other that fills the angled part of the nose, and there's bracing and wiring conduits running everywhere. Honestly I've likened the dumper in the nose of an EMD unit to using a Porta-John with less head room...
Further, allow me to say that doing any kind of work in there is a massive bear, so assuming the box contains electrical equipment that may need servicing (hence the doors) it'd be nice to be able to perform maintenance someplace where its not as cramped or dark, and if you need to get to that box fast, in the nose is also a rather poor place, even if you're up in the cab. Heading down the steps into the nose, I had to turn sideways, and bend over sideways so I could fit through the door both height- and width-wise, not that my shoulders are all that broad even.
