As a general question, where do you find references for your projects? - Online photo searches?
- Books?
- Rail fanning?
- Plans/blueprints?
I sort of feel “lost in the woods” and just wanted to get an idea where to start. Online searches are pretty good at providing overall images, but I haven’t had as much luck finding close-ups. The detail everyone here applies to their models is amazing. Just trying to find a good starting point for my next project. Cheers, Nate

Well, my three biggest sources are www.rrpicturearchives.net www.railpictures.net and since I am an NS modeler, www.nslocos.com RRpicturearchives has the greatest number of photos and is what I use for many of my projects. www.locophotos.com is good although I havent used it too much. Depending on the railroad, some of the historical societies have a large selection of images available. For instance, the MONON H&TS has a large section of there website devoted entirely to images of all of the towns along the MONON. Hope this helps, Christian

Well, it's kind of a general question. That said, I have a BLI GG-1 on my work bench that I hope to finish in the next week or so. It's a diecast body and I don't know that I can make additions easily. I plan to just add a few tidbits to the roof based on the pics I have from the Pennsylvania Railroad Museum. It's really just a project to practice applying decals. Don't worry -- since it's an electric, I'll hide it from the Diesel Detailer forum!
The other project is a PRR SD45. Any advice for reference ideas on an SD45 as well as recommendations for a model -- Kato or Athearn? I haven't even done an online search yet, so I may be surprised at what I can find.
Thanks, Nate

Thanks! Those are great resources. A good start for my collection of RR links. Nate
