Starting with an NYC Atlas RS-1 classic, will be adding All Weather window, removing all traces of NYC lettering and stripes and adding my KCS decals, also having to replace the sideframe from mine to the Friction Bearings, hopefully an easy project, more to come, as computers allow.

They were black new, I do not believe 1111 was ever red. 1112 was red, infact I have not seen a black shot of it ever, and 1113 was black. I want to do the black as I can purchase a red one on Evilbay, for the same reason I want to do the GP7 as 157, it was red for my time, in fact the only red GP7 I have seen for KCS.

well I wish I could post some pics, today I have all lettering off, used a combo of micro sol and a pencil eraser, then used my air eraser to remove the residual lettering and take off the safety stripes off the pilots. I have made a reasonable representation of that walkway mounted item( Brake bypass ) added some tender hooks and have some chain mounted in front of the fuel tank. I am presently working on the odd MU plugs. Needs a good wipe down then airbrush some black in a few spots then I can decal. This is a fun project so far.

Kerry, I picked one up at Harbor Freight, and use Arm and Hammer in it. About 30-60 psi works like a charm, and for 19.99 with a 20% off coupon you can't go wrong.

Your project is looking good, I'm jealous! But may I ask where you got that part? I'm not sure what it's called either, but as mentioned before, the "plumbing"? I only ask because I have three RS1's sitting here which I plan to detail soon, and many of the parts don't seem to exist yet, brass or otherwise.

The parts are details west, I started with AF-198 Prime air filter, drilled three holes on the larger piece, then using AP-242 Air Tank Details w/Piping thick CA'ed the parts together, then CA'ed that to the shell, ( I got lucky and managed to only attach to the body, so I can still disassemble the loco, Then using the smaller piece from AF-198 drilled a hole in the body and attached it, above and to the left. after everthing was attached I cut the pipes to fit (somewhat even) with the walkway. I will also be using another AP-242 to create the MU plugs that are center stage of the end handrails. The parts are not the correct parts, but for my purposes were close enough. www.mgdecals.com/Details%20West%20Part%20Pics/198.htm the air filter www.mgdecals.com/Details%20West%20Part%20Pics/242.htm the piping not a bad $3.50 investment, lol I will use some DA MU blanks I have on hand. for the MU connections, I have already drilled out and just need to attach the piping from another AP-242. Hope this is helpful.

Thanks! This'll help a lot in my first few kit-bashes. So many RS1's, so little time. (And Cash, Haha!)
Cheers!

got my Re railers in, and mounted one today to more of the Tender hooks that I have. I have the All weather windows 85% done, remounted the end rails, and preping to put the MU plugs in place. Then hope to spray today or tomorrow, but unforunatedly present computer issues is not allowing me to upload photos.
