I was asked a few times recently how I did the "ghost lettering" on this Railbox boxcar. Just noticed last night that Dan on this site asked back in Oct. Missed the PM This was the topic for my clinics at the WPM and MCPM last year. It was my first powerpoint presentation I first paint the car the Railbox yellow and then give it about 5 washes of PolyScale Roof Brown and Mineral Red. After it dries, I cut a stencil of the Railbox logos and lettering and apply them. I then bead blast the weathering/PolyScale paint away, leaving the yellow background. Removing the mask this what it looks like As for the faded blue and red on the arrow logo, I just mix paint to match and handpaint, almost drybrushing Hope this answers any questions, and I will try to answer any additonal questions. Wow! That's great! How did you make the stencil? I'm guessing you printed it then cut it out and that must have taken some time???

Kerry, Thanks. I have a sign business and use a 30" vinyl cutter. I design the logo on the computer and then cut it on the plotter. Small letters don't cut very well sometimes. You could handcut the logos, because on the prototype the lettering is not alway a crisp outline.

Butch, that is great.
Honestly, you ought to think about making and selling those stencils. I know people would buy it, anything to make life easier! The one ghost paint I did, I had cut a copy of a decal I made up. It took HOURS and I swore I would never do that again.
