As being a part of the site for a short time, the bug has been really starting to bite on dropping BNSF modeling and going freelance ie. COIR, River RUN, and the many others here. Ive been looking into attempting to do a freelance line called "Central Illinois". Basically trying to do it simply, such as flipping illinois central around. Also, been figuring out a paint scheme, and 1 of my all time favorates is the Mopac Blue with the eagle. So, been trying to figure out paint shop and seeing what will work and look good. Id like to keep the eagle theme, and , SD's and GP's all the way! So any help would be appreciated! Thanks guys!

I picked my railroad because I love the location, the history, and the scenery.

I agree with Randy, the prototype can help you achieve what you want. The other thing is "SIMPLICITY". Remember that. Look around, most roads keep their paint jobs as simple as they can. Fancy went out with Chessie, although you can call the BNSF Pumpkin's fancy. My best advice is play around with a few ideas first. Pick a model engine (say a GP40) and try a few paint jobs for it.

Jeff, that is awesome!! How did you go about making that drawing? Id love to play with that and try out some GP's and such, and different designs. Thanks for making it, it really makes my idea look really good!

I agree with PEIR also, use the MoPac paint scheme but use a different color. The IC gray would be nice and look really good in place of the blue........ try it on the drawings and show us...... Sarge and I model a merged freelanced railroad. You can do so much of what you really want to do............and if you want or get the itch you can model a prototype engine.......Just look what CIOR does with his..........

Hey Jeff, can you give it a shot with the gray? Im computer illiterate, been trying to figure it all out, but not getting far! And 1 personal request, try 1 with a larger eagle on the hood, with the smaller central illinois on the cab like the IC does??? Thanks!!!!

Hey Randy, the black and white looks awesome! Im fortunate enough the fire house I work for is very close to the BNSF Chili sub here in Illinois, and right out front is the CN/IC line. So I get to see some unpainted IC engines scooting by on occasion!!! You guys are giving me some great Ideas here!! Now would be to figuring out decal options. Thanks everyone!

Im actually leaning towards the black, with the lettering down the long hood ALA Randy's version. But, would use the same style of lettering as the IC, but im always open to suggestions!!! Next I need to figure out the nose striping, and side striping ( dashed or single line), and also the numbering style and location (prob. on the cab). I ve got 4 shells that I will strip tomorrow ( 1 SD40-2, 1 GP40-2, 1 GP38-2, and 1 GP50), Also just rec. 2 New RTR SD40T-2's from Athearn VERY cheap w/o runtime NIB (DRGW and SP) and going to patch those as the first of the group!
