Found that one in my collection of color slides. One of only 4 Canadian-built SD38-2. CN 1653 (ex Northern Alberta Rail) And as so often on CN, very interesting fan designs, especially the second dynamic brake fan. With acquisition of Elgin Joliet & Eastern CN should roster the biggest SD38-2 fleet.

Great shot! The only thing I don't like is the short tank. I hate that dead space between the trucks it looks like it is completely the wrong tank for the unit. But again, it is a great photo of a classic locomotive!

The vertical rear headlight is also typical of most of CN's standard cab GP38s and GP40s.

Not just CN. The stacked rear early Pyle headlight was a GMD spotting feature. Just about all GMD built 35-line and Dash Two locos have it, from CP GP30s all the way through GP40-2LWs and SD40-2Ws. Even the CP Red Barn SD40-2Fs have it.

Paulie, you'd never make it as a Milwaukee Road modeler Lots of their stuff had short tanks, so much so that locos that have full tanks look odd to me now. I've just come to expect the big gap between the front truck and fuel tank.
