Here's the rough work of a SD9 rebuild, the start is a Life-Like SD7 and an atlas GP38 for the cab/nose/battery box. The SD9-3 is a BNSF rebuild from 1999 with only 4 units being produced. Working with the Life-Like frame proved much easier than the Atlas with a cast frame. Next step involve adding a smathering of details. www.locophotos.com/PhotoDetails.php?PhotoID=103905

I like these locos, I modeled one in HO last year. Are they still in use on the BNSF?

Here's an update to the SD9-3. I'm rather proud of my remote control antennas, stolen from a stiff bristle brush and measure .0025" All other details are BLMA. The radio and EOT antenna stands are modified by trimming and bending narrower. The bracket in the front is for a beacon, and the horn is on two beacon stands. The horn is from a LL GP20, I feel these are one of the better representations of a Leslie 3-chime, I even drilled out and installed an air line to the horn. The winterization hatch is scratch built using measurements taken from a prototype. Joe

Yeah, I like the RCL on this unit too, because it's such an obvious rebuild. How are you gonna handle the changes in the handrails?

Recent work includes, removing the early SD steps and replacing them with steps from the Atlas GP38. I'm using BLMA's diamond plate walkway, I'm very pleased with appearances of this product. very thin too. As far as the handrail question goes, I've decided to use Gold Medal Products stanchions and using .006 brass for railing. I may use .008 for sturdiness. pictures to follow
