Nice job, and a good excuse to have a loco that you don't need to weather, although you missed an opportunity in not calling this thread 'Just Done It'

A nicely finished job.
Any more information on that scheme and also the yellow ends on 7898. Havn't seen that before either.

Thanks for the compliments. Chock, yes it is nice to have an excuse to have a very shiny, unweathered unit on the layout. Gabby, here is a link for some additional info on the Nike geep. Nike was a sponsor for the 1994 Boston Marathon and CR did this geep as an advertisement for them, parking it near the running route. In return Nike donated a bunch of sports equipment to local schools. i27.photobucket.com/albums/c195/dave08/scan0002.jpgAs for the 7898, it was a switcher somewhere in Jersey, and is the only unit on the system to have it's pilots painted canary yellow for visibility at the many road crossings it had to traverse while switching. crcyc.railfan.net/locos/emd/gp38/cr7898ef.jpgwww.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=1481442

That turned out nice Dave. I understand the GP15's "run" great too. Keep up the good work. Paul

I love these builds, it is almost like the 1621 is the size. Always nice to see a fun build. That blue with the Nike Checks is great and the Canary yellow ended one has unique charm. Always fun seeing a unique locomotive and you have given us two. Great Job

I built the 7898 about 10 or 15 years ago. It is one of the units I learned to drill and add grabs on, the other being another Athearn blue box, an SD40-2 I painted in Conrail Quality #6440.
Thanks for the comments on the units and the interesting schemes they wear. I also have bicentennial GP38 7776 and "Keep it Moving with Conrail" B23-7 #1980. I really enjoy building Conrail units, and particularly showing other modelers how boring Conrail IS NOT. I hear lots of comments about how boring the CR scheme is, but I could fill a book with all the variations of the standard CR scheme, let alone the later white stripe and quality schemes, and all the special schemes as well.

Great job Dave, I had never seen or heard about this engine before, when I first looked at your model pics I was like who is he trying to kid with this scheme...Then you posted the article, nice bro, real nice!

Neat looking unit. I think you done a great job on both units. That yellow really sticks out at you, I can see why they would use it on a locomotive in a densly populated area, bet it helped out alot.
