Is there anyway to install a rooftop beacon that will actually blink or ditch lights that will alternate, in a dc locomotive? I know this can all be done on dcc, but i am still holding on to dc, mainly because i dont have the money to convert all my stuff over.

modelmaker51,, what diameter would u recommend for the ditch light and to use as a replace ment for headlights? Also when wiring the constant lighting up, will they still be on when running in revrese, or will they be directional. looking at your pic i cant really tell.

I have actually been thinking about swapping to dcc. The club i belong to just built a large layout thats dcc and so far it seem to be the way to go. They have been trying to talk me into swapping over but right now im still weighing my options. They are using digitrax on the layout and it seem pretty simple. what would you suggest for a beginner in dcc on a small home layout,,about 16x16?

My club uses NCE so thats what I'm most familar with. NCE makes a Power Cab that is everything you need for a small layout, and the power cab can be used on a larger system in the future (no need to re-buy parts).
If your club uses Digitrax though, thats what i'd go with. That way you can bring your own throttles with to the club layout without problems.

@daniel,
You might want to go with the Digitrax since that's what your club has. One system to learn as a beginner, one less throttle to buy ect.
We had EasyDCC (CVP) at our club and recently switched to NCE. The big advantage with NCE is that it has far superior wireless reception, some CV settings are much easier to change and on the 'hammerhead' throttles, there's a digital display. CVP came out with a throttle with a display too, but it wasn't as advanced as what NCE has. I really don't like some of the quirks in the consisting of the NCE system, but overall I think I like it better than CVP.
Will you need wireless at home? That will drive up the cost of your home system. (16x16 right?) -just more stuff to consider.

well guys i finally decided to go with Digitrax. Ive been studying the system on our club layout and I have started to like it a lot, also given the fact that the club members have a good knowledge of the system helps to. thanks for your advice though.
