Has anyone tried to build milw 5900 or 5901, the motorcars that the Milwaukee homebuilt? I've got a few book with photos but not much detailed info. I'm trying to figure out what would be a good starting point. I'm assuming most of it will need to be scratchbuilt. Does anyone know of a good online resource or even just a source of photos?

Mike, i had the same idea. Unfortunately, no other locomotive has even nearly the nose form of that ugly thing. If you have any idea let me know...

Yeah I figured the nose would be tough. I managed to fond some good pics but I need to do a lot more research before I jump into this one. Something has to have a similar profile nose that could be used as a starring point? I'll let you know of I ever figure it out. After doing some research it looks like a C-Liner might be somewhat close on the nose profile (granted with lots of modifications, including moving the windshields farther up the nose). I don't know but it might be reasonable to start there. The biggest problem is only 2 were built, both were scrapped, and there aren't many pictures or drawings of them. From my research it seems like the Milwaukee bought engine parts from EMD and the trucks from Fairbanks Morse. Does anyone recognize what type of FM truck is under this loco? It's an A-1-A truck, supposedly by FM. donsdepot.donrossgroup.net/mil5901.jpg

Dan Christiansen scratchbuilt his HO scale 5900 on an Athearn Train Master mechanism. Dan is a member of North American Prototype Modelers club in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
