Very cool. Wasn't there a Reading engine with a similar cab?

I'm positive that the PRSL Pennsylvania-Reading Seashore Lines GP38s have this option.
Now I think I've seen photos of Reading units with this option, but I can't be sure though or may be it was an EL unit. I bet somebody here knows...

Yeah, how would one go about making such a cab? I wanted to make some PRSL GP38s.

Mike Rose bought his HO collection and is selling it off, through his hobby shop. I'm not promoting him or anything but that where I noticed that Brian was switching scales. I'm sure Brian's new N scale stuff will knock our socks off too.

Randy, Brian only dumped his existing stock. His personal stash of HO Scale will be rebuilt. You'll have to contend with being NO. 2! CJH I was just kidding, I'm more like 36th.

PRSL, Reading and a few others came with the "morphodite" cab. They were also used on Conrail, during that brief era that they had a former NW man in charge of the motive power, and were buying dual-control stand units. The cab extention was there so that you could actually get *IN* the door and around the "fireman's side" control stand. To comply with the 3 seat rule, the normally middle seat was attached to the backside of the secondary control stand, and it was just a plank of wood rounded off with some padding and vinyl on top.
I've operated a few of these...THe 7906 a few times, but mostly the 7909. they were interesting.

Thank you for the link. Two of the GP38's the P&LE got from Conrail had this cab front and I was trying to figure out how to do it

Nice job so far! I did a Reading unit a while back (below) and have just started on my own CR GP38 with the extended cab.

Thanks! I'll try and get more pics after I fix my little handrail dilemma...this was the first loco I painted using water based paint (Pollyscale), and the handrails are flaking a bit. I've been researching ways to paint delrin handrails (started a thread recently in the Help forum), and once I get it figured out I'll re-do the handrails.

I can't find the thread to see what others have said but here are a few of my suggestions. Using fine sand paper rough up the surface. Yes it is tedious but all you need is a couple strokes over the piece to give a little tooth as those Delrin handrails are slippery. It you have a grit blaster, use that instead. Eleswhere, I have heard others have suggested vinegar but I'm not so sure about that. Try using the Badger Modelflex stuff on the handrails as well.
