I am planning on modeling an early 1970s push-pull commuter set for the NJDOT/EL northern New Jersey service. At one end of the train is a U34CH that I am setting up with a Tsunami decoder.
The cab car at the other end of the train has a horn and I want have the horn sound come from that car and not the U34CH.
The question: do any manufacturers make an inexpensive horn only decoder? Am I stuck using a $80 plus tsunami or the like and turning the diesel sound off.
Am I taking this too far to want to have the sound come from the cab car and not the U boat?
Thoughts....suggestions?

Your stuck, unless something was developed and I've never heard of it (anything possible).
If you want a horn file, then perhaps a Soundbug as Jay pointed out. The biggest issue is in fact the speaker. The problem is that you just can't deliver the correct sound with the size of speaker you can fit in even a passenger car! To properly push the sound, you need something in a 6"x9" or 6"d size. We know this won't happen in a model engine.
I suggest a base reflex speaker, even for a horn, being able to push the horn through a ported speaker is the best option. Even for a mid.

Yep I also agree, you can get a Digitrax Soundbug, a sound only decoder for as little as $50.00. With a little shopping, you can probably find a Soundbug on sale for cheaper.

I like that idea Mark. I'd like to see someone "ELSE" try it first. LOL

It would work but then you'd have diesel engine noises and whatnot in the cabcar and no sound from the locomotive.

Thanks for all of the help here! I like the idea that Uncle Jay had about consisting the diesel and the cab car....the electronics "have no idea" that there is a train in between. I will keep everyone in the loop when I get to that project!
