This is a great photo set, be it you, your parents, or your grandparents era. The world was in turmoil and these image do a fine job at capturing. From Caribou Maine (image 5) to Florida, and all the way to the west coast at Shasta Dam. images 46-54 show lot of the character of rail service and the people at home making things move for WW2. Wow, those are great photos (slides?). Even more impressive is that color film was used instead of black and white. Makes the shots even more rare.

I have thought about giving up on diesels and making up my own line based in this time period. Steam power was at its high tide, and diesels were in infancy.
