This model represents one of the rebuilt GP38s and GP35s delivered to BNSF from NRE during 2006. Interestingly the donor loco was originally an hi-nosed ex Southern unit.
The base for the model was a factory painted Gold series Atlas model and was detailed using the 'club runner' principal set out by Brian Banna on his website write-up of his BNSF GP40 project i.e. enough detail to give a convincing impression but not a major re-engineering job.
The only surgery required was was on the fuel tank, this being shortened by removing both ends and then cutting out the redundant sections, truing up the edged and re-attaching. In common with Brian's Geep I added 10 thou tank ends, Cannon air resovours, piping and DW air filters. The standard Atlas trucks were retained but had their outboard brake shoes removed, sand lines added using DW brackets and micro-bulb flex and DW speed recorder
Cab roof detail were stock parts from DW (Sinclair antennas) and BLMA (RV style air-cons). The little square GPS antenna (?) behind the air-cons was scratch-built from a shortened DW small Sinclair antenna stand and Evergreen strip. The horn was replaced with a DW version and remounted using a DW raised stand.
Pilot detail was completely removed and replaced with a combo of DA and DW parts. The plough was 'hacked' to better represent the prototype. The only body mod was to remove the front and rear class light mouldings, touch in the paint the with an airbrush and replace the front nose 'swoosh' logo.
Just needs a little weathering needed now.....
