Here is a photo of a Wisconsin Central GP35m that I kitbashed from a RPP GP35. Enjoy ;D

Dan, I hope you will show us some of your techniques for your builds. Awesome work!

This was a very simple kit-bash. I used a RPP GP35 and the Non-Dynamic brake section from an Athearn GP38-2. Detail Associates makes the extra non-turbo exhaust stacks, DA#2402. This particular shell is one I've been using for color testing

A friend of mine who models the WC has been working on a half dozen GP35m conversions. He uses the Athearn non-dynamic brake hatch from a GP38-2 also.
The real GP35ms were cool locomotives! I didn't run many since they were mainly used on the WC's secondary lines but once and while they would show up in Superior WI on a local or work train.
The units were good puller, rode well and sounded great with that modified 4 stack exhaust manifold.
Oh those WC memories!

WC, WC, WC. That thing looks sharp! Alas, I am too late in the game so am left with shooting the few stragglers CN still employs.

Anyone know of a similar part swap that can be done for the non dynamic hatch but i want to do it to a Kato shell?

Vince,
I believe the dynamic brake section of the Kato is molded in. You would have to cut it out in order to install a GP38-2 non-dynamic/paper air filter box section.

If you are talking about the HO Scale Kato GP-35, the dynamic is a separate piece, I have a unit in the box with non and dynamic snap out parts.

Thanks for that info, Randy The few Kato GP35's that I have (still in the box also) are buried on a shelf.

Randy,
Yes, HO scale. Forgot that little tidbit...good, now there is hope. I have to find someone with one who can test fit an Atlas HO scale dynamic hatch and paper filter section to see if it is compatible.
If anyone out there would not mind helping, I can mail them a hatch to test fit....

That looks incredible!
Although the model is spectacular, weren't the real GP35m's rebuilt from old Soo Line power like the Alco-trucked GP30s?

Kris,
All of the WC GP35m's were ex-MP units. They were de-turboed in 1974, then rebuilt with 645 power assemblies and upgraded to GP38-2 specs in 1976-77 by MP. #4010 is former MP #2614.
