for the trucks I first applied a base coat of rustoleum primer. I don't know the exact name of the color but the cap is a rusty red. I then used artist acrylic paints mainly raw umber, burnt sienna. I stippled the paint on and while it was still wet I gave it a light dusting of weathering powder to tone down the shine. i got this technique from "model trains weathered dot com", so I can't claim it as my own.

That is a beautiful unit. I like the way the paint and decal job came out, and the whole unit is just really well done. I want one of these decked out for Norfolk Southern as power-by-the-hour to run with my stuff. There is a resin kit I read about around here someplace, but if you can scratchbuild it and get it to come out that good, I might try that. Decisions, decisions.
Very nice job!

Very nice work....any chance you would be willing to share your dimensions used to build the flare and the styrene stock as well? I just won an undec UP and plan on building one of these.

Thanks for being willing to share your measurements and stock used. I forgot that I had my email hidden... I have since changed that. But just to be thorough here it is: mlansf@gmail.com
Any other pertinent information you could impart or think may be beneficial to the build would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks .....woot!
