I think those are SDP40's, with the steam generator section in the rear space of the long hood. The steam generator may have been removed by the time those pictures were taken.

I think Athearn made the SDP40 at one time (old wide body model). You may be able to find some on ebay as a starting point. I dont believe they kept it in their catalog when everything changed to RTR.

How about using the rear hood from an Atlas SDP-35?

Looking at my Atlas SDP35 end. it doesnt look like a worthwhile match. I think I would take a look at an Athearn SDP40's rear section first. If it's close (sidedoors, virticle lights, classification lights and those little rear bottom doors) I would cut the Athearn shell up to use it. You can cut it down and make it thiner. The rest of the shell is pretty much worthless. I would combo it with an Atlas GP40 carbody for the correct hood doors. It looks like it's got a -2 cab and sub-base setup too. It'll take a few shells and some work to make it correct but certainly not impossible, especially in HO. It will definitely be a nice, unique build. I love the Flexicoil II tripple clasp brakes too!
