I happen to have a first run undecorated Spectrum DASH 8 - 40CW how complicated is it to place DCC in it ? I should mention that I live around the corner from NCE..

Not very, if you're a little 'handy' with a solder iron. There are not many preps needed to my knowledge, I think the loco will already have a split frame, and the motor is probably insulated from the frame. Unsolder the old circuit board, solder in the decoder of your choice and you should be away. Of course, I don't know if you want to add sound, extra lights (ditch lights etc ) but if it is just a standard DCC install, then it should only take you an hour or so.
Maybe NCE can install a decoder for you, or your hobby shop can help otherwise and install it (perhaps for a small fee, or as a customer service)

Just isolate everything. I did one years ago when I did custom installs. I just came off of each truck with new wire. I believe going from memory, I had to mill out a bit of the chassis, but I don't recall. I wrapped the contact points on the motor and it went well.
Just take your time and use a Volt meter on the OHM setting to see if you have any current flow from frame halves before you put the engine on rails!
