See Pictures below.....Finally!
Hi Everyone,
Well, I'm finally getting started on this project I've envisioned for a while.
I purchased three Walther's Car Shop Kits Item #933-3040 to kitbash together for one long locomotive shop. I wanted it to be long enough to hold Two DD40 type locomotives, Three SD type locomotives, and Four GP type locomotives per bay if needed.
This is my first structure to kitbash and only my second structure that I have built. The first is the Walther's ADM Concrete Grain Elevator 933-3022. Nothing like going from a pebble to the Death Star!
Even though I plan to put this on a layout someday, it's first roll is going to be a photographic diorama for interior and exterior shots with locomotives. I plan on not having one of the end walls glued on for a while to give me more room to photograph locomotives in it.
After cutting the foundation per Walther's instructions, I taped the foundation pieces together and then the walls of the shop (The long sides of the walls were all ready glued together) to make sure everything fit correctly. I found that I had over cut the foundation and it came up a little short. I found the correct width styrene strips and glued them on two end pieces of the foundation (the white strips you see in the photo). After drying I trimmed the excess styrene off, re-tested everything and it all fit this time! I hope that is the only hiccup I encounter! We'll see!
The next step now is to glue the foundation pieces to some large styrene sheets to give the foundation more strength and rigidity.
After seeing it all together for the first time during the test fit , I realized there is a lot of work to do! Wow, that is..a...lot...of...brick...to...paint and detail!
Let the fun begin...
