Last saturday the first parts from Atlas arrived. So i could start this projekt. First a link to a pic of the loco. www.illinirail.com/kbsr/roster/kbsr309.htm The KB&S used it several years without new lettering. For this RS11u, ex GBW i've ordered the nose and the cab of an C420 a first, very rough displaying of the parts. The numberboard of the RS11 high nose is still in use. However, now the top of the cab mounted. Similarly, the battery boxes will be used again. From the C420 cab I only needed the front, center windows, which now must be fitted into the cab RS11. And the new nose needs to be extended and adapted. The new front window is fitted also the number board. On the C420 nose I have begun to fill the extra slots. On the long hood, there are two fans too much on each side. They have to be filled with putty and then i have to sand them.

Don't forget to remove the dynamic brake equipment from the top of the long hood. I need to do this conversion as well for use with my GBW interchange fleet.

Just a suggestion for next time (if there is a next time, or anyone else that wants to model this engine)... the short hood from a RS32/36 would be the better choice here. It would also have that recessed brake wheel and wouldn't have the door to remove on the fireman's side. You'd have to get the whole shell from Atlas though, since the short and long hoods are one piece on the RS32/36's.
Otherwise, great work so far! Can't wait to see it done!

Also, if I'm looking at the prototype picture correctly, the fuel tank is smaller? It doesn't have the angled part..... Are you going to model that?

@ River Run they will be removed of course @ Rudy Garbely to change the tank's form and height will be the hardest part of the conversion. I have to shorten the screws of the motor mounting too. The milling of the frame will be easier because I have such equipment. But I'm thinking of building an entirely new tank, because the old one is quiet simple. But i need a little help: it's about the part at the rear of the cab's roof: Is it an antenna or a light ?

Actually, the C-420 nose is the only one that will work without much modification. The other Century's used a nose with a much shorter length, and the RS27/32/36 all had notches on their snouts. John Just a suggestion for next time (if there is a next time, or anyone else that wants to model this engine)... the short hood from a RS32/36 would be the better choice here. I have an RS36 sitting in front of me and I totally overlooked the notches!

I'm not sure you are aware of or are interested, but a gentlemen in Manitowoc, WI makes the "H Weldon McGee" decals that are under the cab windows. I believe a have a set of those "somewhere" when I get around to doing a more accurate version of GBW 309. Right now, I have a low nose Key Imports brass model. Not 100% accurate, but for now....
